  2. Nice shots, can't see enough of the vending machine to see if they had switched out the hot drinks yet (the blue buttons means cold, and red buttons for hot). Most of the bottom row should be hot.

Did you manage to load up with the tasty tasty cakes and cookies from the airport shops (up the escalators from the check-in floor)?

  3. Oh, man, you make me so sick to go back. I traveled through Japan for two weeks in 2009, and it was the most amazing experience. Just forgetting everything you think you know, and letting a completely different culture wash over you. I'm really dying to go back there again.

Hope you had fun, and that you tried the drinkable, canned créme brulée from the vending machines. They're delicious! Oh, those vending machines!

What about wasabi ice cream? Had some? It got a really new and astonishing flavor!

  6. Just read Blue Remembered Earth, and I wonder-did you ever read Return from the Stars by Stanislaw Lem? It features similar changes to the world, with physical violence being eradicated. Although Lem does focus on nasty after effects of such change, including mental abuse replacing violent physical aggression. In any case, I found BRE enjoyable, it's not as exotic as Revelation Space, but somehow made me remember more optymistic SF stories and settings from the past. It is a nice change from all the dystopian and grim visions of the future SF has recentely provided us with(although there is a possibility of dystopian tone in the world described). Would love to see some story fleshing out more Earth and its state. And I can't wait for the sequal!

  7. Yes I did read Return from the Stars, I don't remember very much about it other than the basic theme but it would be interesting to go back and see how much has soaked through into my current thinking.
